Congo Peafowl

Democratic Republic of Congo, An African state declared Congo peafowl as their national bird. The Congo peafowl bird is native to the Congo basin, these birds are the types of peafowls which are also known as African peafowl because this species of peafowl birds found in Africa. In Central Africa, They can be found in the Congo democratic republic. You can see these birds in the primary and secondary lowland forests in the Congo democratic republic.

In 1936, Congo peafowl birds were discovered in the lowland forest of the Congo democratic public. When Dr. Chapin saw them for the very first time he was not able to identify them. They have long reddish brown feathers which he has never seen in any other peafowl species. After that, he went to the royal museum of Central Africa and compared his previously discovered Indian peacock bird with his newly discovered Congo peafowl. Both birds were different from one another.

Dr. Chapin discovered seven more specimens of the Congo peafowl birds in 1955. Guinea fowl and peafowl characteristics are found in Congo peafowl birds which means Congo peafowl has the connection between both guinea fowl and peafowl birds. Congo peafowl birds are smaller than the genus Pavo but if we talk about Africa, this species of peafowl is the only big phasianid.

As we know, male peafowl birds are called peacocks, and female peafowl birds are always known as peahens. Both genders of Congo birds are beautiful and amazing in look and personality. Congo peacock and peahen, both are immature Asian peafowl. Due to their amazing design, male and female peafowls are known as a member of different and unique species. Congo peacock birds have bills in gray color and a bare throat in red. They come in a lot of amazing and bright colors. In peacocks, their crest is split into parts. Congo peafowl birds are omnivores like Indian peafowl, these birds can eat both meat and vegetarian foods, and their diet mainly consists of fruits, vegetables, insects, and spiders. Along with that, they also eat mosquitoes, ant eggs, berries, and dry foods. They always try to find snakes because these birds love to eat small snakes. They eat fruit and vegetable seeds that farmers put in their crops.
